Why do I fight for the rights of gay people as a partner in a heterosexual marriage? Why do I fight for the rights of minorities, as a white woman in middle America? Why do I fight for the working American , or the rights of child laborers in foreign countries? Why do I fight for the freedom of religion for Muslims , or Christians , or any of the non- Abrahamic traditions, when I am at least a militant Agnostic? Why do I fight for the freedom of Atheists when I am quite obviously a Deist? Why do I fight for free speech even though I disagree with people? Why do I think those inciting violence should be held responsible when their rallying cries cause others to commit violence when they do not denounce violent rhetoric?
